University of New England George and Barbara Bush Conference Center*
Biddeford, ME
A schematic design concept developed by Mr. Herman. The conference facitilty would have demonstrated a sustainable, "green" design ethos. It was to have been located on a hillside site overlooking the Saco River. The 40,000 square-foot complex was to include two buildings linked by a porch overlooking a central, stepped terrace leading to the waterfront. The building to the left would have housed the conference facilities and included a 450-seat auditorium, multi-purpose ballroom, six "break-out" meeting rooms, and a board room. The building on the right would have included twenty-nine, four-bed suites available to conference attendees during the summer and students during the school year.
